The Clarinet BBoard. Hello! I’m currently writing a PhD Thesis on Boosey & Hawkes clarinets. I’m especially interested (unsurprisingly!) in the 1010 models. a) Anyone who has played 1010s and would like to tell me about their experiences of them. b) Anyone who owns a 1010 or a pair of 1010s. One fun fact to consider is that all woodwinds (to my knowledge) operate on the left is top, right is bottom. So it would be a little strange if the clarinet was the only one in inversion. In my own playing I haven't noticed any significant advantages or struggles of playing the clarinet with a left hand dominance.The bell was made often from this material because of it's high damping coefficient near to wood and it's resistance against damage. The second the material is easy to form and cheap. The influence of bell material is less than 1 or 2% of all sound capabilities. It's not mandatory to do the bell from wood...The Clarinet BBoard. I recently watched an interesting Youtube video from Michael Lowenstern on the Uebel Plateau Clarinet. For those of you just "coming up to speed" this is a clarinet whose tone holes are more like those of a saxophone, in that there is no directly placement of the pad of a finger on an open hole of the instrument.The clarinet bboard is a resource more than maker of product. And it has no competition to speak of. It only stays afloat due to the 30 year dedication of one man whose niche market simply doesn't command the audience, and commensurate financial worth of a Facebook, for example.It might be a C-pitch Clarinet, but 25 3/4" seems a bit long for a C. Suggestion: play the instrument and find if a C on the Clarinet (cover the thumb hole and the three left-hand finger holes only) equals a Bb on a well-tuned piano. Imperial 926 = 15.05mm (O.593") and 1010 = 15.25 mm (or 0.600") I own an ex Royal Marines pair B&H of clarinets c 1946 and both the Bb and A are. "The Doctor" innovated many unique products for the clarinet, including a natural cork grease, a granadilla bore oil, and specially shaped silk swabs ("available in any color you choose, as long as it is black"), and many other items. Whether or not to use bore oil at all is a hotly-debated topic among clarinetists. Their reed has a shorter vamp than legere but the window of their mouthpiece is also shorter than in most mouthpieces.
